Featured Service – PET/CT

Connecticut’s only PET/CT scanner at an outpatient facility

Advanced Radiology’s new PET/CT scanner in Trumbull combines two scanning techniques into one. This combined scan is especially valuable in identifying cancers, often before they are visible on other tests. Our PET/CT scanner can complete whole body surveys for better cancer detection and staging, which allows for more precise biopsy and treatment planning. After chemotherapy, radiation or other treatments, a follow-up PET/CT scan helps to accurately evaluate your response to cancer treatments, and helps your doctor make adjustments to treatment. PET/CT can also be used to evaluate heart function and evaluate brain abnormalities including seizures and memory disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.

How PET/CT works

A CT (Computed Tomography) scanner captures detailed images of the anatomy of your body—the organs, tissue, brain, etc. PET stands for Positron Emission Tomography. A PET scan shows organ and tissue metabolism and function. By combining PET and CT, our radiologists can pinpoint abnormal metabolic activity within the body. Combined scans have been shown to provide a more accurate diagnosis than the two scans performed separately.

Advanced Radiology provides quick access to appointments with convenient hours, as well as Web-based access to reports and images.
